SHINING FOR JESUS
[Witnessing]
V. Good evening. Say hello to the nice folks, Joe.
D. Hello to the nice folks Joe.
V. Cut that out You know what I mean!
D. No I don't. What's so NICE about them?
V. Now listen you....
D. All right! I'll settle down.
V. Good, and I have a letter that came for you....
D. Well what is it?
V. Just a second I'll open it up....Hey it looks like you are going to be getting some sort of award.
D. That's cool, I wonder what I'm getting it for?
V. Hear I'll read you the letter. Dear Joe, Congratulations. You made my first team. You have been a big help to me. You have set a wonderful example.
D. Hey, that sounds alright.
V. (It does, doesn't it, up to now, let's continue) Every time you stayed away from Sunday School and Church you encouraged other people to do the same---and you have missed often! Keep up the good work. Signed, THE DEVIL
D. I DIDN'T GET A LETTER FROM THE DEVIL, YOU MADE THE WHOLE THING UP!
V. Maybe you didn't get a letter from the Devil, and maybe I did make the whole thing up,
but just the same, you have been a big help to the Devil, by missing Sunday School and
Church. This encourages other people to do the same.
D. I can be good without going to church all the time. I don't do bad things!
V. Doing NOTHING is something bad.
D. It is?
V. Yes, suppose you had a little sister, and you were walking down the street with her one
day, (or, there was a big truck coming down the road) and you came to a place where a
power line had blown down, and your sister started to go toward it, and you did
NOTHING and she were killed.
D. Oh, that would be murder!!!!
V. When you stay away from Sunday School and Church you make other people think that going to church doesn't matter. There are so many people whose soul's are not saved for eternity and you have been encouraging them not to know Christ
D. That's even worse than killing somone! Isn't it?
V. Right, a Christian has to either live for Christ, or else he is hindering Him. When you try to just do NOTHING you are really working against Him by setting a bad example.
D. Your making that up.
V. No, I got that from Jesus, who said, "He that is not with me is against me, and he that gathereth not with me scattereth abroad."
D. Then I should go to church to show I'm a Christian?
V. That's not all, you show whether or not you are a Christian by everything you do where ever you are, home, school, play, work. just wherever.
D. Really, how come?
V. Because what you really are on the inside shows in your life, if you love God, then people will be able to see it in your life.
D. You made that up too.
V. I did not, in Matthew 5:14, Jesus said, "You are the light of the world, a city set on a hill cannot be hid."
D. What does that mean?
V. I thought you might ask that question, Joe, so I brought this match along with me to try and explain it. You shouldn't play with matches Joe. I have just lit this match and it is burning with invisible light. (Vent. pretends to light a match he has in his hand.)
D. That match isn't lit. If you can't see the light, it means there isn't any light.
V. That's right, and that is what Jesus meant when He said that a Christian is like a light. If you can't see Christ in his or her life, it might mean Christ isn't in their life.
D. How do I show Christ in my life?
V. Well, there are many ways, Joe, but first you have to keep close to God yourself by reading your Bible and praying every day. Then God will begin to change your life, and you will begin to love the people around you, you won't want the best of everything for yourself, you will be able to forgive those who do things wrong to you. Maybe you know someone at school who doesn't have very many friends, you could be a friend to them. But most of all by witnessing, this just means telling other people what the Lord has done for you, and what He can do for them. Jesus said in Matthew 5:l6, "Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works and glorify your Father which is in heaven."
D. Oh, dear, oh dear, oh dear (Figure is shaking his head)
V. Now what are you doing?
D. I'm just thinking about how much folks need Christ, I've got to shine for Him all the time.
V. That's true, now it's time to for the suitcase.
